...Who Created It ?

Steve Warren is the founder, creator and chief architect of MusicOne, one of the radio industry's longest-running music and content scheduling systems. The original, first edition was: MdB, a music scheduler for the Macintosh in the late 1980s. With it came innovations such as graphical format clocks and interactive scheduling and click-and-drag editing tools. He later directed the development of the second edition: Music 1 , the first scheduler for Windows, which has served radio stations worldwide for more than three decades. In the Spring of 2026, Steve and his partners released the third edition, the new MusicOne Cloud.

Steve was a veteran music radio program director long before buying his first computer (a Mac) in the '80s. He had learned how to format, rotate and control music flow from some of the best in the business. It was done by hand with hour-grids on paper and numbers on the records and corresponding numbers written into the hour-slots. He instructed the air staff about how to handle rotation problems when two 'conflicting' songs came up by the numbers.

After buying a Mac for his consulting business, he began imagining how it might be used to replicate the manual formatting and rotation systems he used to maintain very precise control of song spins and category rotation patterns.  Steve partnered with an application developer who followed his instructions, translating his ideas into software code. The first (and only) music scheduler for the Mac debuted in October of '87 to much acclaim, but few users. Radio ran on PC-DOS computers. Stations had to buy an expensive Macintosh to use it, which essentially priced MdB out of the market. So, in 1992 Steve engaged another software engineer and re-created the application for the then-new Microsoft OS, Windows.  In the Fall of '94, he released Music 1, the first Windows-native music scheduling software.

At the beginning of this decade, he began working with two world-class engineers, Robbert Scholten and Edi Duluman to create the next evolution. Warren's core ideas about what a music scheduler should do and how it should do it have been re-engineered/re-imagined. It's name is MusicOne Cloud. It works with every automation/playout system. It works with any device; desktop, tablet or smart phone. It is the most accurate, efficient and formatically-reliable  scheduling tool in the world of Radio.

Steve's Career Bio:
1964/July: First paycheck as a part-time DJ at KOTN, Pine Bluff, Arkansas working for Owner/GM Buddy Deane, one of the early pioneers of the Top 40 music radio craft. Promoted to full-time evening DJ in January ‘65. Promoted to program director in January '67.

1970's: Program Director, Operations Manager, Music Director, Disc Jockey, Commercial and TV Voice, Jingle writer,  Ad agency copywriter.

1980's: Program Director, Station Manager, Radio programming consultant advising CHR, A/C and Country formats.  Developed first (and only) music scheduling software for the Mac OS.  Author: "The Programming Operations Manual", a how-to about music radio formatting.  Author: "Re-positioning Country Radio"; the treatise detailing his Hot Country formatting techniques and philosophies was purchased by over 200 Country stations in the US serving as a tactical game-plan for the Hot Country movement that swept over American radio in the late 80s and 90s. 

1990's: Consultant to top rated Country stations, frequent contributor to trade publications and panel member at broadcast conventions. Developed Music 1, the first music scheduling software for Windows OS.

This Century: MusicONE spreads around the world.  MusicONE SE released for burgeoning internet radio.  TrafficONE traffic and billing software released making the M1/T1 package radio's first total-solution scheduling software.  Founding partner of MusicOne Global, Ltd., developers of MusicOne Cloud.
